Skal International Club Christchurch
elects new President

Skal Christchurch held its AGM on the 21st February and elected its new Committee.

Outgoing president Bruce Garrett from Brook Serene leaves the club in a good shape. Bruce Garrett leaves the presidency after three years at the head of the club but will remain as a vital part of the committee.

Of notable mention under Bruce’s tenure we have seen the creation of New Zealand’s first Young Skal group and the establishment of a tourism student exchange with our Adelaide Sister club and the club has continued to raise funds for local charities including over $5,000 for the Christchurch City Mission at the Christmas Club Luncheon and Auction.

Caroline Blanchfield, Group Marketing Manager GCH Aviation has taken the Presidents chains as the new Christchurch Skal Club president.

Victoria Wales, Business Director of HOT Events who becomes the new Vice President.  Other officers are Nikki Rogers from Service IQ as Club Secretary and Anthony Moore General Manager of  Quality Hotels Elms has taken the role of treasurer.

Skal Christchurch makes a significant donation to the Christchurch City Mission to help ease the pain of families over the Christmas break.

Just prior to Christmas the SKAL International Club donated a cheque for $5,000 to the City Mission to help alleviate the pain of Christmas stress and the need for food parcels throughout the holidays.
The money was raised at a charity auction lunch in December where over 100 people from the Christchurch tourism and hospitality sector gathered to celebrate the festive season and raise money for the Mission.
‘Our club has supported our local City Mission for several years but this year our members dug deep to raise a significant sum after reading the media reports of people being turned away from some food banks in New Zealand at such a stressful time of the year ‘said Bruce Garrett, President of Skal Christchurch.
I am proud of what the Skal Christchurch Club has been able to give back to the community and help alleviate the pain of rising costs for local families.

Bruce Garrett, President Skal Christchurch chatting with Matthew Mark, City Missioner, about the growing demand for food parcels and the need for more donations and volunteers.
