Welcome to Skål International New Zealand
Skål International is a global professional organisation of tourism and travel leaders with a strong footprint in New Zealand.
Skål International New Zealand has a total of six clubs spread throughout New Zealand. The inaugural club, Wellington, was formed in 1957. Auckland and Christchurch followed and latterly Rotorua and Queenstown took shape.
Today there are clubs in Auckland, Wellington, Te Tauihu (Nelson/Marlborough), Christchurch and Queenstown. Hamilton is poised to reform.
Membership is open to tourism and travel professionals to join these clubs with application accepted via Skal International's site here. Alternatively individuals living outside of these areas can still join the organisation and attend any club function throughout New Zealand and the world. For details on the Active Individual membership visit here.
Currently, New Zealand boasts over 300 Skål members across the clubs and as Active Individuals. Each club meets regularly providing opportunities for ‘doing business amongst friends’. In addition, all members have the opportunity to gather nationally at mid-year meetings and the annual Annual General Meeting & Congress not to mention global events, such as the World Congresses.
New Zealand is proud to count amongst its own two former World Presidents, Phil Sims who was world president in 2008 and Nigel A. Pilkington who was world president in 2016. We are also proud to have a Membre d’Honneur, Jefferie Tippen.
In 2020 a New Zealander again leads the global organisation. Peter Morrison, from Christchurch is the International President.
In the ANZAC tradition New Zealand has a strong bond with Skålleagues in Australia. Since 2006 each has been represented at the others’ Annual Congresses.
Skål is the only international group uniting all branches of the travel and tourism industry. Its members- the industry's managers and executives- meet at local, national, regional and international levels to discuss and pursue topics of common interest.
